Television & Radio
Steve Blears
I’m a former BBC national news journalist and freelance TV producer/director, with a background in radio, current affairs, observational documentary and factual entertainment.
I started my media career in BBC local radio at GLR, before moving on to work as a Senior Broadcast Journalist and reporter for BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 4. That involved producing live and recorded news reports, features and packages for national audiences.
At Radio 1 Newsbeat, I reported for a younger audience and also worked as Newsbeat’s USA reporter, based in New York.
My radio work later included reporting for Today, PM and You and Yours. From there, I moved into factual television as a freelance shooting producer/director, filming and producing programmes for BBC One, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, Sky and UKTV.
My TV credits include The One Show, Watchdog Live, Helicopter Heroes, The Wanted, Housing Enforcers, The Force: Manchester, Extreme Cake Makers, Kirsty and Phil’s Love It or List It, House for £1, River Walks, Bangers and Cash and Scouting for Toys.
Across that work, I self-shot, directed presenters, sourced stories, edit produced and filmed observational documentaries, often working with contributors in sensitive real-life situations.
